This week, I was given the opportunity (sponsored by Social Spark) to dream (and drool) for a few minutes as I checked out what I could be doing if I were traveling to Switzerland this summer. I mean, with a description like this:
Located in the heart of Europe, Switzerland is home to dramatic landscapes and quaint country settings. With cultural influences, including French, German and Italian. Heritage and culture abound , as well as historic castles and villages. Switzerland has something special for every traveler, from adventure on the slopes to pampering yourself in luxury.
...who can resist?
CandyMan used to travel to Europe quite a bit with an old job, and I was always jealous of his time there. Granted, he was mostly working, but still.....Wouldn't you prefer working at a place with a view like this?
I browsed around Discover Swiss "Pearls" , looked at a few Swiss "pearls", and came up with a perfect itinerary. OK, so I might have to think about a better schedule to maximize sightseeing time and minimize travel time, but I think it sounds like a stellar trip. My only question is: can I book my flight tomorrow? I'm ready to go. Here's what I'd do:
Staring an elephant in the face: This sounds like pure heaven to me: A one-hour boat trip on Lake Gruyère, which is surrounded by enchanting countryside. After the boat ride, some exploring: I'd love to see Rossens, where the head of an elephant has been carved by nature into the cliff face, or the medieval ruins and picturesque chapel on the tiny Île d’Ogoz (doesn't that look like Fairy Tale material?). I would be sure to bring my camera on this trip!
Riding and dining through Lucerne: I love the description of this trip. Imagine a 2-hour horse-drawn carriage tour of Lucerne with gourmet food all along the way, whether it’s a classic fondue, a zesty Raclette or meat barbecued to a crisp at your seat. I'm there! Really--a romantic carriage ride through a historic town....with food? That's my kind of trip.
An intimate encounter with Mont Brè: What a perfect opportunity for a photographer (or a photographer wanna-be!) As if the spectacular views of Lugano weren't enough to entice me, it is also home to the village of Brè, which has retained its historic charm. Brè's original Ticino character and its old washing fountains is a charming reminder of times past.
Dream Job On Offer: Do your kids dream of being grown up and having a job? Take them to the Märchenhotel Bellevue hotel in Braunwald, where every Wednesday thru the summer, the management steps aside and turns the hotel over to a much younger staff. Kids can spend the day as a hotel director, pool attendant, fish feeder, goat trainer, slide supervisor, hotel fireman, and more. And, as an added bonus--they get "paid" at the end of the day. I would LOVE to see all of my kids hard at work while I lounged at the pool (especially if they were the ones refilling my drinks!).

A Guest of the Chef Himself: Before leaving Switzerland, I'd be sure to spend a day with chef Jean-Michel Colin and learn some of the secrets of his trade (in other words, to-die-for cuisine!). This excursion would be purely self-less, since I would be learning cooking skills for the benefit of my family and friends. OK, so maybe I would take a few nibbles while I was soaking in the information. For those of you who watched my recent chick chat video with my sister, you know that we are all about the food.
What would you do on a trip to Switzerland? Check out a few of these Swiss Pearls and let me know what you would do if you were in Switzerland this summer. What makes up your ideal vacation? Coincidentally, I started a discussion in my blog frog community about this very thing. Where would you go today....?
